UG Entry Requirements
The School of Design welcomes applications from those studying a range of (‘A’ level equivalent) Level 3 qualifications, where candidates have the potential to succeed in relation to the academic and creative challenges of the course.
The offer of a place on the course is based on careful consideration of your UCAS application, including pre-A level qualifications / GCSEs, your personal statement and academic reference. Good performance at ‘A’ level (or the equivalent qualifications) in creative and academic subjects is essential. Offers are made in terms of specific grades.
Foundation courses in Art and Design are welcomed as an additional qualification to ‘A’ levels (or their equivalent), but are not a requirement for entry.
Access to Leeds gives special consideration to students whose personal circumstances may affect their ability to demonstrate talent and potential through grades alone. Please see the Access to Leeds website for full details of the scheme.
The School welcomes mature applicants. Where appropriate, applicants who have had a period away from full-time education and are undertaking a validated Access course in Art / Design, are interviewed. Applicants will be required to show some recent written and practical work; and their experience, skills and knowledge will be considered in relation to the academic and practical demands of the course.
Entry requirements for overseas applicants are equivalent to those required of UK applicants. In exceptional circumstances, where a well-qualified overseas applicant has no formal art or design education, the school may consider their art / design work. Applicants should email at least six images of their recent work to email@example.com, at the time of their UCAS application. The email should have the subject title ‘Images to accompany UCAS application’, plus the applicant’s name and UCAS ID number.
Overseas applicants are also required to have recognised English language qualifications. We require IELTS 6.0, including 5.5 for each skills band, or an equivalent qualification, such as TOEFL or the Pearson Test.
All Applications should be made through UCAS (www.ucas.com).
Please refer to the School of Design’s Entry Requirements document for detailed information.
