Research interests include image capture and reproduction; colour specification, management and visualisation; and appearance measurement.

Biography

Peter Rhodes was awarded a first class BSc honours degree in computing and subsequently a PhD for his thesis “Computer Mediated Colour Fidelity and Communication” from Loughborough University of Technology. This work led to the development of ColourTalk, a computer-based system for colour specification and communication within the textile industry. In 2004, he joined the Department of Colour Science as a Senior Research Fellow, where he led its two taught MSc programmes. He moved to the School of Design in 2012, where he is now Director of Student Education and leader for the BA Design and Colour Technology programme.
Dr Rhodes has authored over 50 academic publications which include book chapters on colour management and colour notation systems. In 2009, he was the co-recipient of the Itek Award for an outstanding publication in the field of imaging science and in 2012 received the CGIV12 Best Interactive Paper award (both from the Society for Imaging Science and Technology). He has also contributed towards the development of the ISO 10617 standard for colorimetric communication. Recently, he was the Publications Chair for the 12th Congress of the International Colour Association, held in Newcastle in 2013 which attracted over 500 conference papers. He is also actively engaged in a diverse range of commercially-oriented research and development projects, including the objective assessment of fabric pilling, a fundamental investigation into the apparent intensity of flashing lights, and high-fidelity colour printing.
